Updating the leads being sent to your AI recruiter via Slate integration

Updated over 3 months ago

1. Review whether to update or replace your Slate query

There are two ways to realign your lead uploads with updating targeting goals:

Option 1: Update your existing Slate query

  • Modify your current query to adjust:

    • Admissions year (Class Year / Graduation Year)

    • Program or academic interest filters

    • Geography or region filters

    • Opt-in or communication permissions

    • Any other relevant filters to keep your lead uploads aligned with your new strategy

  • Keep the query connected to your current integration — no connection changes required, just updated logic.

Option 2: Create a new Slate query and reconnect it to the SFTP server

  • Build a brand-new query from scratch, aligned fully with the new strategy, rather than modifying the old one.

  • Replace the old query in your Slate SFTP export configuration by:

    • Setting up a new export based on the new query.

    • Reconnecting the SFTP integration to the new export file by following part 1 of our Slate integration guide

2. Confirm required fields and export settings

When setting up your export (whether from an existing or new query), check that you include:

  • Required fields:

    • First Name

    • Last Name

    • Email Address

    • Phone Number (if available)

    • Class Year / Admissions Year

    • Any segmentation fields tied to your targeting (e.g., major, geographic region)

(See our guide to on which fields to import here)

4. Validate the SFTP setup

If you create a new Slate query + export and connect it to SFTP, perform these checks:

  • Confirm you’ve connected the new query to the SFTP feed (and disconnected the old one)

  • Run a test export and check that the file lands correctly in the SFTP drop location.

Final technical checklist

  • Have you decided whether to update the existing query or create a new one?

  • Are you targeting the correct admissions year and segments for this term?

  • Are all required fields present?

  • If you created a new query/export, have you reconnected it to the SFTP integration?

  • Have you validated the export and tested the SFTP delivery?

  • Does the number of records in your query fall under your total number of allocated lead uploads?
