How do CTAs work with my AI agent?

Here's a guide on how to most effectively use CTAs for your AI agent.

Updated this week

What are calls to action (CTAs)?

Calls to action (CTAs) are the core mechanism through which your AI agent guides students toward taking meaningful steps in their journey. Think of it like this: any action you may want a student to take should be included as a CTA option.

Examples of CTAs include:

  • Application initiation: "Start your application now"

  • Video content: "Watch a quick video about life on campus"

  • Event registration: "Sign up for our upcoming virtual info session"

  • Advisor interaction: "Email your advisor"

How to create a CTA for your AI agent

You'll find the CTA function by logging in to your CollegeVine account>AI Agent of choice>Vault>Calls to action.

As you work to add your call to action you will be asked to add in the type, this is what the CTA will show in your emails sent to users. You can select from a list of pre-loaded language or add your own.

You'll add in the link you want users to be directed to when engaging with your CTA.

Lastly, you can determine the target group you want this type of CTA will be shared to by your AI Agent. Then click Save.

CTA delivery in action: how the AI uses them

CTAs are embedded into the AI agent's logic and conversation structure. Here’s how they operate:

  • The AI agent identifies the best moment to present a CTA, such as right after a student shares their interest in a major.

  • Based on various inputs and student data CTAs are adjusted to reflect what's most relevant.

  • Some CTAs lead to automated workflows (like form completion), while others escalate to human team members.
